All that may be true, but amonia, nitrate and phophate as stii nutrition for different things in our tank. For example, Nitrate is a direct food source for anemones.
I did my 300 when i picked it up used. It is time consuming but not that hard. A lot depends on how bad the scratches are. Materisls are not that expensive. You can geat a small kit for around $40.
Nice looking sailfin. I had one for 24 years at least. It grew from silver dollar size to the size of a dinner plate. Also the main reason I upgraded to a 300 gallon tank. It was a real bummer when I lost him.
I would not get both unless you plan to spend a lot feeding them or have a very large system. They will both likely end up starving to death otherwise.
